Raimundo Francisco Lopes, 92, of 7th Street, East Providence died Thursday November 26, 2020 at the Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Clara (Silva) Lopes.
Mr. Lopes was born in Sao Nicolao, Cabo Verde, the son of the late Francisco and Rosa Lopes. In Cabo Verde, he was a proud farm laborer and managed a distillery plant for many years prior to immigrating to the United States in 1986 where he worked as a housekeeper at Johnson & Whales Inn.
Mr. Lopes was the epitome of hard work, strength, sacrifice, and the rock for his whole family. He was a man who shared his emotions when he witnessed any of his children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren achieve a milestone. He welcomed all who entered his home with warmth and love. Wherever Mr. Lopes was, there was always music, dancing, stories being shared, and smiles on faces.
He was Clara’s best friend and partner in life. The two of them were inseparable. Sitting in his recliner chair with his signature hat on, Raimundo and Clara shared many memories together. They enjoyed reminiscing about their childhoods and life they started together back home in Cabo Verde. In his final hours, it was she he was most worried about.
Raimundo (Papa) leaves behind his wife, Clara (Silva) Lopes, his children Francisco Lopes and wife Maria of East Providence; Joao Lopes and wife Antonia of East Providence; Antonio Lopes and wife Margarida of East Providence; Mario Lopes and wife Maria of Pawtucket; Francisca Lopes of East Providence; Rosa Oliveira and husband Adalberto of East Providence; Maria DosSantos and husband Pedro of East Providence; Antonia DosSantos and husband Jose of East Providence; Manuel Lopes and wife Amy of Rumford; Joao Timas of Cabo Verde whom he raised as his son. Papa Raimundo was the beloved grandfather to 27 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all of his nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and friends.
Due to the current pandemic all arrangements and services are private.
